Apostolic Nunciature
 
The Apostolic Delegate for East Africa, residing in Mombassa (Kenya) represented the Supreme Pontiff in Sudan to 1969. 
In 1969 the Apostolic Delegation of the Red Sea was established with head office in Khartoum.
In May 1972, the Sudan Government established an Embassy to the Holy See. The Apostolic delegation was then raised to Nunciature, the representative being called Apostolic Nuncio.

In January 1999 the Apostolic Nuncio to the Sudan is :
H.G Archbishop Marco Brogi (o.f.m.), born at Alexandria (Egypt), on 12 March 1932. He was ordained Priest on 5 May 1963, consecrated Bishop on 6 January 1998, and appointed Nuncio to the Sudan and Apostolic Delegate of the Red Sea Region on 13 January 1998.
